This was my 1st performance ever. I was like a month into my internship at the Pico Youth & Family Center in Santa Monica, CA when this opportunity came up. I was establishing myself as an artist at the center but I felt out of place because most of the other youth there were already established. I was the up and coming rapper from South Central and this is how I made a name for myself out there.
I had written a verse for a song called "Ethnic Studies" that would eventually end up on the PY's 4th studio compilation album. However, at this point in time, it was just a written. I had not recorded the verse or practiced it live. If I remember correctly, I didn't even know I would be performing it in front of so many high school students. ANHEL told me that it was a high school conference but I thought it was going to be inside some classroom or something. This was a whole stage. I was nervous but I wasn't going to let that stop me from rippin the mic. "Living in LA but my mind in Arizona, young Mexican American from Southern California..."
